Oceanic House has now been completely refurbished at all levels by BLDA Architects. Earlier phases of works included substantial structural alterations and façade cleaning, new stonework and repairs with seven new luxury apartments.
The building footprint is strategically located based on a masterplan for the area drawn up by John Nash in 1820 linking the West End of London to Trafalgar Square. Thus all three main facades have equal importance. A silvery granite plinth facing Pall Mall turns into a back of pavement wall along Cockspur St, and the lighting of the shop fronts gives the building lift.
BLDA were selected as interior architects to Oceanic House in addition to the external works on the basis of their extensive experience of designing bespoke luxurious apartments. The roof at Oceanic House comprises Westmorland green slates which are used in most of the prime buildings in Pall Mall. Balconies are formed between the roof and new Portland stone parapets with commanding views towards Westminster. The new balustrade imitates a ship’s rail.
